كلماتٌ في الندم والرجوع إلى الله، تجمع بين الخوف والرجاء وحلاوة الثقة برب العالمين.
طَالَ لَيْلِي وَاللَّيَالِي حِمْلُهَا فَوْقَ احْتِمَالِي
Ṭāla laylī wa-al-layālī, ḥimluhā fawqa iḥtimālī.
My night has grown long, and the burden of the nights is beyond what I can bear.
نَالَ مِنِّي غَيْرَ أَنِّي مَعِيَ رَبِّي لَا أُبَالِي
Nāla minnī ghayra annī, maʿiya Rabbī lā ubālī.
It has wounded me, yet my Lord is with me, so I do not fear.
أَثْقَلَتْ رُوحِي عُيُوبِي وَكَبَّلَتْ قَلْبِي ذُنُوبِي
Athqalat rūḥī ʿuyūbī, wa-kabbalat qalbī dhunūbī.
My faults have weighed down my soul, and my sins have chained my heart.
ارْجِعِي يَا نَفْسُ تُوبِي مِنْ ضَيَاعِي وَضَلَالِي
Irjiʿī yā nafsu tūbī, min ḍayāʿī wa-ḍalālī.
Return, O my soul, repent from my loss and my misguidance.
كَمْ تُنَادِي يَا عِبَادِي غَيْرَ أَنِّي فِي عِنَادِي
Kam tunādī yā ʿibādī, ghayra annī fī ʿinādī.
How often You call, “O My servants,” yet I remain in my stubbornness.
هَائِمٌ فِي كُلِّ وَادِي عَنْ يَمِينِي وَعَنْ شِمَالِي
Hāʾimun fī kulli wādī, ʿan yamīnī wa-ʿan shimālī.
I wander through every valley, to my right and to my left.
طَالَ يَا دُنْيَا انْتِظَارِي كَانَ ذَنْبِي بِاخْتِيَارِي
Ṭāla yā dunyā intiẓārī, kāna dhanbī bi-ikhtiyārī.
O world, my waiting has become long; my sin was by my own choice.
هَلْ سَيُنْجِينِي اعْتِذَارِي أَمْ سَتُرْدِينِي فِعَالِي
Hal sayunjīnī iʿtidhārī, am saturdīnī fiʿālī?
Will my apology save me, or will my actions turn me away?
غَفْلَتِي وَجَهْلِي وَقُوعِي هَلْ تُوَارِيهِ دُمُوعِي
Ghaflatī wa-jahlī wuqūʿī, hal tuwārīhi dumūʿī?
My heedlessness, my ignorance, and my fall — can my tears cover them?
حَانَ يَا رَبِّي رُجُوعِي نَادِمٌ فَاقْبَلْ وِصَالِي
Ḥāna yā Rabbī rujūʿī, nādimun fa-aqbil wiṣālī.
My Lord, the time has come for my return; I am regretful, so accept my closeness.
عَائِدٌ يَا نُورَ دَرْبِي سَاقَنِي خَوْفِي وَحُبِّي
ʿĀʾidun yā nūra darbī, sāqanī khawfī wa-ḥubbī.
I am returning, O Light of my path; my fear and my love have led me.
وَاثِقٌ بِاللَّهِ رَبِّي فِيهِ مَا أَحْلَى انْشِغَالِي
Wāthiqun billāhi Rabbī, fīhi mā aḥlā inshighālī.
I trust in Allah, my Lord; how beautiful it is to be occupied with Him.
